As a freelance violinist and flutist of Southern California, Josh brings his rich and diverse musical background to online music instruction.
LEARNING
As an undergraduate music student, Josh performed throughout the West Coast (and even parts of Canada) in leading positions with the UC Riverside Symphony, UC Riverside Chamber Ensemble, CBU Choir & Orchestra, CBU Concert Band, CBU String Ensemble, RCC Symphony, and RCC Wind Ensemble. In 2009, Josh won first place in the President Honor’s Recital at Riverside Community College. His professors include Mary Oppermann (Flute), Pam Vliek-Martchev (Flute), Todor Pelev (Violin), and Jack Krumbein (Violin).
PERFORMING
Josh has performed with a plentitude of musical groups, large and small, in various concert halls, venues, and recording studios. He is currently the principal second violinist of the Corona Symphony Orchestra, where he has taken the position since the orchestra’s inception in 2008. Additionally, Josh has played with other ensembles such as the Dana Point Symphony Orchestra, Eastvale Symphony, Stratus Duo Chamber Orchestra, and more. Some notable experiences include performing with Natalie Cole in 2010 and Mannheim Steamroller in 2016, both at the Fox Theater in Riverside, CA. He currently performs on an exquisite silver Muramatsu flute and a contemporary violin made in 2012 in Hollywood, CA.
TEACHING
For over a decade, Josh has taught violin and flute to students ranging from 3-70, including students with learning disabilities. He also taught as a flute coach for middle and high schools in the Corona-Norco Unified School District from 2009-2011. Josh rigorously and enthusiastically works with students to successfully progress through the Royal Conservatory of Music assessment program. His students continually achieve high marks in the program better preparing them for pursuing music in higher education.
As a Gallup Certified Strengths Coach, Josh brings a unique, innovative, and science-based approach to music education. Additionally, Josh holds a Master of Business Administration and a Master of Science in Management & Leadership from Western Governors University.
